Doctor Who Tardis Shoes

If you are a massive geek/nerd like me then you have probably heard of the somewhat popular British sci-fi show Doctor Who! I love clothing, like my Gryffindor scarf, that represents the nerdy things I love. While browsing through the ever-so-entertaining etsy.com, I stumbled over these incredible Tardis shoes and instantly fell in love! Sadly, the price tag on these babies was $45. I knew I couldn't live without them so I set off on a mission to make my own!
Materials You Will Need:

Your Materials

* White or Tan Canvas Shoes (got mine at Payless) ~ $15
* Acrylic Paints (Walmart brand works) ~ $3
* Assorted Brushes (make sure you have both a wide thick brush for the base coat and a thin small brush for detail like the words and windows) ~ $2
* Several Toothpicks
*Pencil
*Thin Tip Black Sharpie
*Plenty of Paper Towels!!

Approximate Total Cost: $20

Step 1
Make sure to throroughly clean your canvas shoes with warm water and soap to ensure that no residue is left over.
Step 2
Avoiding the tongue, eyelets, and rubber edges, paint the rest of the shoe blue using the thick wide brush. Make sure to add several coats of paint to ensure full coverage and maximum vibrancy!
Step 3
After letting dry, use the thin brush to carefully paint the edges of the shoe near the rubber and eyelets as well as the edge of the inner tongue (refer back to the first picture above for help).
Step 4
Using a pencil, lightly outline the rectangle where the words "POLICE public call BOX" will be. You can also go ahead and pencil in where you want the windows to be.
Step 5
Use the thin brush to outline the rectangle in black paint then use the thick, wide brush to fill it in. Do the same with the windows (I suggest avoiding the wide brush when painting the windows since they are so tiny).
Step 6
Carefully outline the larger words ("POLICE" and "BOX") with a thin tip black sharper then fill in the letters with white paint (use the smaller brush). Once you get to the part of the band where words "public call" belong, switch your brushes for toothpicks and carefully outline the words using white paint (use the first picture above as a reference).
Step 7
Continue to add more coats of paint where needed until the desired thickness and brightness is aquired. Let dry. (OPTIONAL: you could continue on and decorate the tongue like the picture up top. I did not because I did not want to reflect just one specific Doctor, this one being the 11th Doctor)
Step 8
Make sure to wear your brand new Doctor Who Tardis shoes with pride!! :D
